‘Cut medicine for me’: addressing suboptimal dosing of antimicrobials as a critical issue to combat AMR in Nigeria

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a significant health issue in Nigeria, particularly in the sub-Saharan region. The regulation and operations of Patent and Proprietary Medicine Vendors (PPMVs) in Nigeria contribute to the underuse of antibiotics. Patients’ antibiotic use and seeking behavior facilitate this practice, and social determinants like poverty and poor education contribute to this issue. This article is the first to critically address AMR underdosing in Nigeria.
